Ultra optics researcher Jens Limpert wins ERC Starting Independent Researcher Grant for Powerful and Efficient EUV Coherent light Sources

On 1st of November 2009 the project PECS "Powerful and Efficient EUV Coherent Light Sources" has started. The principal investigator Dr. Jens Limpert has been awarded by the European Research Council (ERC) for his pioneering frontier research in the field of laser science and engineering. During the project PECS the expertise in high average power ultra-short laser pulses will be extended and applied to strong-field physics experiments. In particular, high harmonic generation (HHG), i.e. the generation of coherent light in the extreme ultra violet (EUV) spectral range, will be explored at outstanding pulse repetition rates in the MHz regime. The high photon count in the EUV will be of great benefit for a number of scientific applications such as imaging, spectroscopy and lithography.

The PECS project has granted a funding of 1.5 million Euro for a project duration of 4 years.
